Uist 2012
A reduced party of 10 this year. Made perming five lochs from seven nice and easy though! Monday was a bit of a write-off due to 40 mph winds. Tuesday was no better. Friday was very wet – so photos are mostly from Wed/Thurs.
Back to the Ochill hills and the 250 acre Frandy, a loch I like for its (normally) free rising trout in the shallow water along the north bank. It was one of those days when the weather looked as though it just might be quite good for dries – despite everything that Ken had said…
Coldingham reminded me that it was the start of the kickball season; you know that game a bit like rugby – the difference being that when a kickballer executes a perfect tackle a fellow with a whistle stops the game – Coldingham was a game of two teams. One team firing out midge tip lines…
As we assembled in the car park the day was promising – a warm breeze from the southeast, cloud cover and a wee wave on the water. Looking out from the shore showed fish rising at shear point. I was paired with Dougie Skedd and we both put on dries – me on 14s and…
On a day that started out very promising, Eric Singer and I set out full of hope and looking forward to good sport. We anchored up at the outer edge of Town Bay. A few casts later Eric was into a fish, a nice one of over two pounds. Shortly after, I had one on…

At the water’s edge, it was still promising – even though no fish were showing. Happiness when fishing is a matter of expectation:…
Trying to photograph Stan for T&S magazine in unremittnigly dreich weather.
Very few photos, thanks to everything, including the camera, getting soaked in a biblical downpour on the first day on Eye. Everything survived – just!
My first outing back fishing with the club since falling off a ladder, watering plants a few weeks ago. I landed on my casting arm – not the best of landings! I reckoned I could manage a day on dry fly, and Frandy was as good a place to put that to the test as…
I am having no pleasure putting this report on paper; well would you if you had blanked. It was an overcast kind of day with a gentle breeze at 17oC, the water was also 17oC – the wind (I am calling it a wind now) was from ENE so I will use that as my…
