Photos taken crossing from Uig to Tarbert, and back, from Stornoway to Ullapool.
While on the ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool, a Coastguard helicopter came alongside to conduct a training exercise, putting a man down onto the back of the ferry, and taking him back up again. I had the long lens on at the time, for seabirds, distant shores etc. It was a bit long for the job! I did manage to bring the shutter speed down to slow enough to capture some blur in the rotor blades.
An itch scratched – taking some shots from up high, looking down on people and stuff with a tilt-shift lens in tilt mode, so it makes it look all Toytown-Lego-land. It’s a tight squeeze getting up the ever-narrowing spiral staircase to the very top level.
A winter afternoon’s exerise with a single, fixed focal-length lens – in this case a standard 50 mm.
Shots of Leith docklands, testing a 70-200 mm f2.8 IS lens.
All frozen-up in January 2010. Initial vantage point was the roof of the ‘Blue’ car park at Ocean Terminal. Then a walk through the frozen docks behind the Scottish Office, round by Rennie’s Isle, and up Shore.
