Sutherland and Easter Ross, June 2024
Three days of cold, windy conditions, but good sport with a dapped mayfly.

Twelve of us based at Shinness Lodge for a week… A whole week of cold, dry easterlies, with 4 and a half days of sun. However, wind strength was on the whole decent (a write-off for the two on Merkland on Tuesday), and sport was had by all.
Ten of us fished the lochs for a week, split into sub-groups of 6 and 4, accommodation-wise. I fished in the group of 6, along with Terry Doyle, Dave McDowell, Brian Wright, Gavin Gilchrist and Angus MacRitchie. I was on Loch Eye for 2 days, Craggie for 2 days, plus a day each on Lochs…
A day on our way to Orkney. Blowing a total hooly in 2016. A much better day in 2018.
Photos from our stop-over days on Eye, en route to Orkney.
Tricky on Eye, but some nice fish to be had. Plenty sport on Shin. Highlight was the mayfly hatch on Craggie – our best yet. Mostly stayed with dries – can’t cover risers with the dap!
