That was a really tough outing. The conditions were not that helpful. I was fairly optimistic, though. We did a drift heading right down the North Shore. I honestly thought we would find some fish beyond the island. It was a real struggle. Matt and I went through just about every line. I never thought it was about the fly; more about the depth, but this proved foolish. Maybe one of Darryl’s bunny leeches might have worked? Interesting to hear that Trevor and Mel both caught some small jack pike. I know they must exist in the Loch, but never managed to land one. The feeding must be good for them. There were a few small fry around. I think the odd fish that moved might have been after some floating snails? There were a few on the water. Thought at first they were seeds of some sort. Dragged up a bit weed with the anchor when we gave up the ghost and anchored in the main basin. There were a few Corixa around the weed beds as well. My box of traditionals was safely in the boot of my car, but I wonder whether a Black and Peacock Spider might have worked?
The Club’s 10 rods landed 5 fish.
