Following a week of scorching weather, we might have guessed that the fish would have lost their appetites somewhat. However, generally being optimists, when we arrived at the Lake conditions seemed to be promising – good cloud cover, a nice wee ripple and a pleasant 16 degree temperature. 7 hours later as the boats returned, a lot of long faces were testament to the fact that our initial guess was correct.
It was a very tough fishing day and a return with 9 blanks in it, some of them surprising, was disappointing even if somewhat expected. There were highlights despite the overall gloom. Gary Heseltine and Jerry Cutler, fishing together, managed three each although they had to go deep to get any action. Gary’s 5lb 12oz blue on a sunk daddy is particularly worthy of mention. Cats whiskers, blobs and boobies were successful mainly, but at least a couple were caught on dries. The fish caught were the usual high standard of Lake rainbows.
15 anglers caught a total of 12 trout, three of which were returned.
